MEDIA RELEASE - Community Economic Plan
28 September 2009
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC PLAN
A draft Community Economic Plan has been developed in consultation with various stakeholders in the Goondiwindi Regional Council area.
The plan identifies opportunities for economic development and potential strategies to encourage growth in our region.
Council’s Mayor, Graeme Scheu says the plan is intended to be a blue print for economic development throughout the region and will require community ownership in order to be successfully implemented.
“Council has initiated the planning for economic development but the plan will only work if it is owned by the community and we all work in partnership to implement the strategies that are identified,” he said.
The plan incorporates feedback received from the rural listening tours and the town community meetings held earlier this year.
As a first step to progress the plan council is seeking community comment on the draft plan to ensure it reflects the aspirations and needs of the community.
Residents are encouraged to comment on the plan. The Plan can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.goondiwindirc.qld.gov.au or hard copies are available at Council’s Customer Service Centres.
