Help Keep Our Roads Safe

Following recent damage to signs and traffic devices at Council roadwork locations, Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor, Graeme Scheu is calling for people to consider their own safety and that of others before damaging council property.

Cr Scheu says that interference with the operation of portable traffic lights or removal or damage of signage at roadwork locations may have severe and tragic consequences.

"The highways crossing our region are busy and we need to ensure travellers are safe, especially at night and weekends when roadwork sites are not physically manned," he says.

"Council is taking this matter very seriously, and any culprits apprehended may face criminal prosecution," Cr Scheu says.

Any members of the public who notice portable traffic lights at worksites not working correctly, or are concerned that worksites are not safe for vehicles are asked to call Council's after hours emergency numbers:

Goondiwindi and western areas - 07 4671 4671
Inglewood and Texas areas - 07 4652 1834

"I implore everyone to consider safety first on our roads as tragedies occur all too easily," Cr Scheu says.
