Inglewood Scoops the Pool!!
Inglewood residents will be the big winners following advice that the Goondiwindi Regional Council application for funding to construct a new swimming pool has been successful.
Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Sport, the Honourable Phil Reeves made the announcement late last week.
Council's Mayor, Graeme Scheu says considering the significant financial challenges the new Council is currently striving to address, the funding from the State Government will allow the project to proceed sooner than could otherwise be expected.
"The 2009-10 budget will be very tough, and we are delighted that we are now in a position to carry out this major project for the residents of Inglewood," Cr Scheu says.
"Council still has to fund a considerable portion of the project however our continued efforts over the past 12 months have paid dividends with the subsidy approval," he says.
Council will maintain their efforts to relieve the financial burden on ratepayers by continuing to meet with State and Federal Government representatives on a range of issues.
Council's Director of Technical Services, Mr Dave Burges, said there are still a number of issues to be finalised in relation to the construction of the project.
He advised that the design of the new facility is progressing well and it is hoped work will be able to commence later this year.
"The construction of the project may impact on the pool being available for use for part of the next season, however this issue will be discussed with the community prior to work commencing," Mr Burges says.
Meeting at Inglewood Swimming Pool last year are from left: Councils Director Technical Services, Mr Dave Burges, Mayor Graeme Scheu and expert swimming pool designer, Allan Cockerell of JH Cockerell Pty Ltd.
