Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, congratulates Cr Rob Mackenzie on his appointment as Deputy Mayor for the upcoming Council term.

"Contrary to popular belief, in Queensland, the Deputy Mayor is not automatically assigned to the person with the most votes in the local government election. The entire Councillor group elects the deputy based on several factors, including experience, resident confidence through voting numbers, and leadership attributes.

Deputy Mayor, Cr Mackenzie expressed his gratitude to his fellow Councillors for the opportunity and support to serve the community in this role.

“Today, we held our first official Post Election Meeting as a new Council team.  Each team member brings unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the table.  As we work together to listen to and address the needs of our residents, tackle the challenges, and pursue opportunities for growth and improvements, I am confident that the team’s passion and enthusiasm for serving our community will be at the forefront of decision-making,” said the Mayor.

The meeting also saw Mayor Springborg elected as Chair, and Cr Susie Kelly as Deputy Chair, of the Local Disaster Management Group for the next Council term.

Council has confirmed that its first Ordinary Meeting will be on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, at 11 am. Future Ordinary Meetings will continue to be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 9 am.

The team also remains committed to holding an Ordinary Meeting in Inglewood and Texas approximately every six months on rotation for the duration of this Council term,” Cr Springborg said.
