DJB First Aid Training - North Star

Free remote first aid unique to rural properties to be delivered across the Goondiwindi Region

  • Goondiwindi Regional Council is partnering with DJB AGRI Solutions to provide free nationally recognised remote first aid training for residents across the region.
  • This training is available at Cement Mills, Yelarbon, Billa Billa, and Weengallon during the month of May. It will give participants the skills and confidence to effectively manage a range of potential emergencies, specifically on rural properties.

To enhance safety and emergency preparedness in our region, Council has partnered with DJB AGRI Solutions to provide free nationally recognised remote first aid training.

With ¹87% of Australian farming accidents occurring in Queensland and New South Wales, the necessity for such initiatives has never been more evident.

Working on rural properties in Australia has its challenges and risks. The unique combination of working with stock and machinery, limited access to water, and excessive distances to basic services exposes workers to risk, and the ability to deal with that should something go wrong requires a unique set of skills and training. This training is, therefore, deliberately different from the standard first aid training offered in more urban centres.

The two-day training, covering HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in Remote and Isolated Site, will cover standard and advanced skills, including prolonged casualty management, emergency service coordination, management of major bleeding, risk planning, CPR, casualty movement, and multi-casualty incident response.

Rural landowners and residents across the region will benefit from local training at Cement Mills, Yelarbon, Billa Billa, and Weengallon. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised certification.

Mayor of the Goondiwindi Region, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, encourages rural residents to make the most of the opportunity and participate in this potentially life-saving training.

"Empowering our remote residents with essential first aid skills has the potential to save lives for years to come. Through partnerships like this, we are equipping individuals with the knowledge and confidence needed to respond effectively to emergencies, ultimately making our region a safer place for everyone," he said.

Council has been fortunate to receive funding from the Queensland Government to support this initiative and others across the region, including the free Bush Kids first aid workshops and ‘Community Wellbeing’ workshops with Chantal Corish, the Rural Psychologist.
